Effective Goal Planning with Structured Achievement
Being the beginning of the year, we would like to revisit one of the most important components of being a success in any field that you are in, Goal Planning and Achievement. It is not enough to set grand expectations for yourself going into the new year, put them in a drawer and pull them out in 365 days and hope you’ve made a dent. Effective goal planning must within themselves, include plan for achievement.
Goal Planning is one of the most obviously needed, and most often miss applied concepts.
To plan your goals correctly, and most time effective, you must first know what your overall objective is. What is your definition of success, at least for this particular project? By knowing how you define success, you know a definite end result, from there you can work your ideas backwards breaking them down into Checkpoint, Task Lists and To Do’s.
5 Simple Steps for Achieving Goals.
1. Start with your final goal in mind: Example: Become certified in Microsoft Word.
2. Research what it would take to accomplish that goal and map it out: I will need to take a pass 3 MS Word classes. Required 3 days off from work per class. All local so no travel costs.
3. Set time based Checkpoints for your objective: These should be things that are huge markers in your mind that you are progressively attacking your Objective. Successful completion of 1st class in May, 2nd class in June, 3rd class in July.
4. Set weekly schedules to help keep you on track: Class sign up deadline and requirements, study materials. Does the class off special study sessions? Where is a quiet place that I can study for a few hours a week?
5. Daily To-Do’s: These should flow freely from your weekly schedules. Actually make the phone calls, and actually go to the bookstore during lunch break. Check these off and review at the end of the day. Give yourself credit for completing and entire week on schedule or ahead of time. Reward yourself. And move on.
Remember, everything that you are working on should in some way positively effect something else in your life, whether its personal worth, self fulfillment, income increase, retirement stabilization. The more individual goal you take complete, the closer and closer you should feel yourself coming to that point of total success, whatever that may be for you.
Everything you do from this point on, every decision you make, you now have a guide to reflect – is this action going to help me toward my overall goal. When you are bored and flipping through channels, is there something you can be doing? Is it better to blow this $100 bucks on a some cool sneakers or do I put it towards my Google Ad Campaign or business cards.
Daily decisions become easier when you have a Goal in mind and daily tasks. If you feel that this is too easy, double up on your Goals. Find something that is homogenous to you primary objective or round out the package by taking on something totally different but still progressive. Certification in MS Word, online creative writing course, part-time Elance job writing product articles. Or, take up karate. Having a martial art is a great way to learn focus and concentration, while getting an incredible workout. The endurance and discipline it takes can serve you in both your personal and professional ambitions.
There are many ways that your idea may branch off, try not to sway from your primary objective but be free and confident enough in yourself to follow where the path takes you.
